Musica Aperta’s Inside Music series offers music lovers the chance to experience music at a deeper level by intertwining the musical performance with drama, visual arts and other artistic expressions. The programme’s goal is to disrupt the idea that many have about the formality and protocol of a classical music concert by adding elements of humour, context, humanity to the concert. The most recent production was entitled Phantasie 3.
Phantasie 3 features chamber music from composers Robert Schumann and his friend and protégé Johannes Brahms. A variety of short works with instruments like strings, woodwind and piano are mixed with readings of letters sent by the composers and Schumann’s wife, Clara. This unique presentation places the music of these famous composers in a historic context and offers insight into their private lives and into their artistic relationship, thus deepening the listener’s experience.
